4 day itinerary

Will be in Beijing in mid-October for 4 full days and have the following itinerary:

1. Sunday

Temple of Heaven / Forbidden City / National Museum / Tiananmen / Wangfujing

2. Monday

Summer Palace / Fragrant Hill

3. Tuesday

Mutianyu to Jiankou Hike

4. Wednesday

Lama Temple / Hutongs / Bell Tower

I'm currently doing the Forbidden City on a Sunday. Should I move this to Wednesday by swapping Day 1 with Day 4? Or does it not matter since I heard the Forbidden City will always be busy. Is there anything that might be better to do on a Sunday?

That looks pretty good. Forbidden City is always busy lol This is quite a busy schedule, have you recovered from jetlag?

I think Sunday is too busy for one day. Do Temple of Heaven in the morning on the last day. Then when you are done, leave by the east gate and it’s I sure a very short subway ride to the llama temple. You can do that and the other items on that day all in one afternoon.

I know that Wes is a slow tralever and I have to disagree that Sunday is too busy. Unless the OP has a very late start, he can easily do the Temple of Heaven in the morning., possibly finishing at about 11h. He can spend a couple of hours at the National museum which is plenty (maybe too much) leaving most of the afternoon for the Forbidden city. I think that he can even add more like Jingshan.

Actually, every day you can do more, especially Wednesday which is not busy at all.

Thanks for the tips guys. I've read your comments and made some changes:

1. Sunday

Temple of Heaven / National Museum / Tiananmen / Forbidden City / Jingshan

2. Monday

Fragrant Hill / Summer Palace / National Stadium / Wangfujing

3. Tuesday

Mutianyu Great Wall / Lama Temple / Hutongs

4. Wednesday

...Fly to Datong!

So turns out I'm able to cover everything I want to see in 3 days instead of 4. This lets me visit Datong for a day, which is on the way to my next destingation Pingyao.

Like Wes mentioned, Sunday does look a bit busy, so I think it's important to plan it a bit more detailed. Are the times below reasonable? I'm just worried about lines, especially since I'm going on a Sunday.

7:30 - Arrive at Temple of Heaven (people watch)

8-10:30 - Temple of Heaven (2.5h)

10:30-11 - Cab to National Museum

11-1 - National Museum (2h)

1-2 - Lunch / Tiananmen Square / Walk to Forbidden City

2-5 - Forbidden City (3h)

5-6 - Jingshan Park (watch sunset)

Very reasonable. Not restaurant on Tian'Anmen square. You need to go south around Qianmen which is away from the Forbidden city.
