Mandalay to Bagan one night cruise

Hello all,

Need some help! I am travelling with 6 others to Burma in November, will be leaving Mandalay for Bagan on the 16th November so looking for a 2 day, one night trip, nothing major, prefer to actually stay longer in Bagan. However, what is the best line to choose, not necessarily the typical ones, is there a local one or a CHEAPER one! They are all so expensive so costs, schedules etc would be good to find out. Any thoughts, suggestions, advice, happily received!

I think the cheapest you will find for a one night cruise is circa $350 on the RV Yandabo or RV Paukan

But they don't have night cruise. Day cruise only. The price is cheap.

Here is the choice for you :

They do have 2 days 1 night cruise. They have traditional cruises at very good price $286/ person.

For sake of both time and money I would really look into taxing a taxi, the going rate for a trip between bagan and mandalay is about $150. Flying is also a really good option and that will run between $50-$100 a person. If you really want to do the boat, you do not want to do the boat thing, your going to get what you pay for and if you opt for a lower price boat your likely going to be in for a long uncomfortable trip

Taxi would be my last choice. Flights should be less than $100, it's only a short distance but pointless as no quicker than by road. Around $300 each does sound rather a lot for the night boat when the day boat is about $40.

We went to Myanmar approx 4 years ago. We took a ferry from Mandalay to Bagan. It took most of the day, cost approx £20 including breakfast and simple lunch. It was reasonably comfortable and enjoyable.

Can't imagine it is not sailing so worth checking out. L.

We are now looking into transport from Bagan to Mandalay, mid January, next year. Can I ask if the one day boats have decent toilet facilities and good availability of seats. We are in our late 60's and are well travelled, but like a bit of comfort if possible. Also would we need to book in advance or are they like ferries when you just turn up?

If we go by road, we would prefer a car and driver for most of the day, with stops along the way, if there is anything worth seeing, so may that be a possibility? Cost is not the main point for us.

Irrawaddy Princess II is cheap option for 1 night cruise. Paukan is expensive.

Thanks for the reply Jade_bm

Sounds like Paukan is likely the best for us, but will look at both.

We have recently-January into February-been to Myanmar. We did the reverse trip form Bagan to Mandalay. This is much less crowded than the opposite direction.Up at 4 in the morning with a taxi included in the $42 cost per person. This includes a light breakfast and a good lunch. The boat,MV PANORAMA was excellent, with only 15 tourists on board, very competent crew and staff. The sun deck was lovely and it really was a chill out trip for about 12 hours.A 6pm arrival with a Tuk Tuk to our Mandalay hotel. This trip is highly recommended. We were fortunate to have the lack of tourists-unlike the circus that is the boat ride from Chiang Khong to Pak Beng and then Luang Prebang.I do not recommend this trip for a multitude of reasons
