I believe on all the fishing trips, that you dont get to keep your catch

I wonder why that is the case. I know they are worried about ciguatera poisoning, but maybe it is just there is a commercial reason? Is there sort of Government regulation or customary rule about fishing rights?

I know for sure I'd not be happy to go fishing and not be able to keep at least a feed or two of my catch.

Wahoo Bar has fishing charters and they will cook the fish. Haven't been on their trips, but they did explain all about the trip when I went there, they also have fishing "lodge" accommodation.

My husband and I just got back from Vanuatu.I booked a fishing trip from Australia with harbour fishing charters,It was great.I caught a yellow fin tuna and took it back to my resort and had sushimi. We had so much fun that we went again and my husband caught two blue marlins. The captain of the boat Mitch is a great guy.Look under tours and you will find it.

I emailed Mitch from Harbour Charters and got this reply

"Yes we can chase the big ones and do some reef fishing though because of a coral disease you can not eat the fish. Yes we do give anglers plenty of the fish they catch. Please have a look at our website www.melebeach.com.vu "

From the website the prices are as follows :-

"2 hour harbour cruise and fishing - A$250/VUV25,000

4 hours fishing - A$400/VUV40,000

6 hours fishing - A$550/VUV55,000

8 hours fishing - A$700/VUV70,000

The prices above includes up to three anglers/passengers"

So there we have it, from the horses mouth so to speak :-)

You may be better off not eating the fish if they are large game fish.

Someone posted on the Fiji forum about getting very sick at a big "chain" resort on the Coral Coast, they got ciguatera poisoning from eating Wahoo at the resort. They are back in Australia now and still quite ill.

This happened in the last 2 weeks , and you just can't detect it until the fish is eaten.

It's also prevalent in Vanuatu
