Buying a SIM Card at Colombo Airport: Possible or not ?

Does anyone know if it is possible to buy a SIM Card at Bandaranaike Airport ? If yes, where, and if no, where else can I get one as quickly as possible after arriving.

and which network to choose ? Should have a good coverage and offer calls to foreign countries that are not overly expensive. (BTW, are there any cheap prefix codes like there are in Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, where u can make calls for a more competitive rate, f.e. by using a VOIP-connection ?

thank you

Hi there,

Yes there's a Dialog shop after the banks in Arrivals. No VoIP over mobile yet in Lanka, call shops often have VoIP on the Internet PC there.

A Dialog SIM card cost around Rs 300, about $3 US. The connection stays valid for one year from your last top up.

Hi there...

Yes, there are numerous places where you can top up your Dialog sim card, look out for shops displaying a red and white KIT (Keep In Touch) sign, or Eazy Reload signs, there are thousands around Sri Lanka..

Hi Kirsten,

Yes but not sure whether you'd use the same technical model. Check out www.dialog.lk; the primary model for Dialog wireless Internet is an USB dongle on a notebook PC. Your 'hybrid' phone might or might not be supported in their models. Fallback would be real WiFi but purely in hotels/areas supporting it, so no wireless long-distance Internet like with Dialog.

I have a similar question than xeebot. I would like to buy a sim card at the airport from Dialog store, but our flight is arriving at Colombo at 4.30 a.m.

According to the Dialog website, the stand at the airport located in the arrivals area is open 24 hours.
