Bought Sim card. Can't unlock phone

Question

I purchased a 15 G data SIM card from Tune at the aiport.   When I inserted it, I couldn't use it because I needed to unlock my phone    I tried several methods as per the AT&T website,  but I still can't unlock it.  I can't even get to AT&T customer support.   I keep getting a message, ' we are having trouble with this service.

In the meat time, I am using my local home phone number for Grab.  But I ran into a problem yesterday when trying to get Grab back to my hotel from Batu Caves.   I had no internet connection. Plus, I am concerned about data charges when using my local cell phone number in Malaysia.

Fortunately I found a Cafe that had a booth where I paid 3 ringits for 30 minutes of wifi.

I booked the Grab.

My question is, "can I get a refund for this SIM card?  Is there another way to unlock my phone?

I've unlocked my phone seamlessly and quickly in Africa.   Idk why I am having such problems here.

Sry to hear that. Unfortunately since this is an issue of your phone and not a malfunction of the sim card, you wouldn't be able to get a refund. You may however ask the mobile staff if they could help you to unlock the phone perhaps?

I went back immediately to ask him. He said he didn't know how.🥴 I will keep trying to get I'm touch with AT&T. 😵‍💫 Thank you.

Is it the same US phone that you've unlocked in Africa, that is not working in Malaysia. BTW , is it an at&t iPhone .

No. I now have a Samsung S22. BTW, I was finally able to get intouch with AT&T by calling their International customer service #.

They were able to unlock my phone. I was able to activate my Tune Talk SIM card.

However, I was not able to add the local telephone number to my Grab account.

I think that is because my telephone number is associated with my credit card number.🤔

At any rate, I now seem to be back in business.

Hi Travelmaven, You shouldn’t need to add your credit card to your account and can pay the Grab drivers by cash. That is what we do. Cheers Sean

Oh. I didn't know that. We have to add credit cards for ride-share services in the states.

And, I was prompted to do so when I signed up for the app.

It's OK for me because I prefer contactless transactions. And I have an accounting of my costs.
