Traveling to Siem Reap and Phuket

I will be traveling early next year to Siam Reap and Phuket and I am wondering if I need any vaccination while being there. We are planing to go for organize tour to see temples in Siam Reap and will stay maybe 2 nights in there. In Phuket we will stay in resort, but one day we will go to Elephant Sanctuary which is in the jungle. My husband and I we are in our early 60th, but my husband is on few heart pills. We would like to be safe, and I am hoping that somebody had that experience behind and will give me some suggestion.

Thank you

Hi Margaret - you should speak to a suitably qualified tropical medicine doctor but I always travel with up to date Tetanus, Hep A & B.

Oh, and you have not allocated enough time for Siem Rep - you need a minimum of 3 full days there (so 4 nights) to do justice to the wonderful temples of Angkor. Check out www.canbypublications.com for more info

Hello P9491IGM_M

Your questions are far better answered by your general medical practitioner/s and/or a travel medicine specialist, who knows the medical history of both of you. There is no point in asking unknown. medically unqualified posters to forums such as this for medical advice.

In addition to which, there is NO "one-sized" answer to your questions. Advice that may be suitable for one patient may be totally in appropriate for another.

Best regards. Ian/Angkorlad

Both places are plenty safe and both places have lots of old people. Direct flights between the 2, ( air asia) make it easy to travel..

agree SR, you will need at least 3, if not 4 nights to justify traveling there.

Just my 2 cents worth. Apart from the excellent and sensible advice for you to seek information from your GP and what they may advise, I always think it’s wise to keep tetanus protection up to date whether travelling or at home. It will also be a good idea to bring a good insect repellent with you.

Yes, 2 nights in Siem Reap will not be nearly enough. If you can plan for 4 it would give you a much better opportunity to enjoy this wonderful and rather incredible place.
