I am traveling with family including my mum (age :78) to Hanoi in July 3. Our trip can’t be too taxing or too many walking.
Please help to suggest what to do in Hanoi and place to visit? Thanks !
Go to the 'Things to do' page here at TA.
Hanoi can be quite taxing - the traffic is unbelievable - so you'll probably need to use taxis (Grab seems to be a good way to do this) a lot rather than braving the footpaths with her, competing with motor scooters. The lake might be a good option - you can stroll around on good pavements and there are plenty of benches to sit on. You can't visit Hanoi without visiting the old quarter, but for a quieter experience, there's a lovely area west of the lake. The streets there are not so chaotic and there are some pleasant little cafes.
Also, ask your hotel for tour ideas. There's an ancient village (Duong Lam) about 40 km out of Hanoi - makes a lovely day trip. When we did it we got out of the car so we could walk the last kilometre through beaut rice fields into the village. For your mum, you could drive into the village, maybe stopping to take photos along the way.
How much walking you do will depend a bit on you - just make sure any tour guides understand before any day out. She might enjoy HanoiKids too. If you need to use taxis with them, they will use Grab and you pay for the taxi.Edited: 15 May 2018, 11:15
