7 hours layover in Bangkok

In November i'll fly to Bangkok. Arrive at 10 am, need to transfer to Don Muang (free shuttle) and take an onward flight to Yangon (6:25 pm).

I only travel with hand luggage .

Need to check in at DMK at 5:25 at last and be at the gate at 5.45pm.

What are your suggestions for spending the day?

Looking for a nice spa in the surroundings of DMK. Found a cooking class in the surroundings, Could go to Koh Kret or Chachuak or ....????????

If flying in from long distance I would have spent the first night in Bangkok and flown to Yangon following day. You know, take a shower and put your bag away then head out at a more leisurely pace for exploring.

Seven hours is not really seven hours. Time taken for walking to and actual immigration/customs procedures. Changing some money. Then waiting for bus departure. For my departing flights I am at the airport at least 2 hours before check in. After check in you will have to go back through immigration again then find your gate, etc.

If you do find a place for a massage always keep your bag and valuables within sight and not in any room or storage place out of sight. Have a means to lock a single bag.

From Suvarnabhumi there is cheap rail service to the Pratunam area for shopping, restaurants. Also this area you can connect with the Skytrain for other locations in Bangkok. But you don't have as much time as you think. Skytrain connects with Bus A1 for a cheap ride to Don Muang.

Good luck.

CH if you arrive at DMK just one hour before the scheduled departure time of an international flight there is a very good chance that you will miss it. Allow a minimum of 2 hours.

Allow 1 hour to be kerbside after touchdown at BKK, it could be much longer.

Allow 1 hour for your transfer to DMK.

So really you have perhaps 3 hours spare.

If you are determined to go somewhere else, I would head to Future park at Rangsit. Its only a short taxi ride from DMK and you could easily lose a day there.

mistaken by an hour :) Flying out at 7.25 pm

arriving 10.05am at BKK

clearing immigration/customs at 11.00 am

finding shuttle to DMK, leaving at 11.30am (2nd floor, door 3)

1 1/2 hour bus to DMK, arriving 1pm

Taxi to Healthland Spa (Pak Kret) 30 min 1.30 pm

2 hours spa, leaving 4.30pm (taxi 30 min)

Check in around 5 pm and flying out DMK at 7.25pm

Think it would be worth skipping the free shuttle and take a direct meter taxi to Pak Kret via tollroad. How long do you think it would take?

skip the shutle for sure - take taxi to pak kret (about 45 mins) and around 500 baht inc tolls

Or take buses (551 and 104) around 120 baht - about 1.5 hours

Never try to time yourself to the minute in Asia. There is always a chance of an unexpected delay somewhere so always leave plenty of extra time . If you have an hour to spare before your flight you can look at the Duty free shops, buy a 200 baht bottle of beer or use the toilet. Better than arriving five minutes late and missing the flight. Security checks can take ages nowadays. Even if you are ready in advance you cannot guarantee that several people infront of you in the queue have everything in the wrong bag and will not remove belts, metal objects , fluids or shoes until the last possible moment, holding everybody up !

Not Hell Kevin, because those travellers are not evil, just annoying, but maybe purgatory is like a boring waiting room in an airport ! :-(
