AirAsia- can I get a refund on a flight I won't be taking?

Hello,

Due to travel changes with the flooding in the Bangkok area I won't be making my flight on November 9th, 2011. I booked this flight from the U.S. a few months back. It appears no refund or flight credit will be available for the BKK to Chiang Mai flight I can't take. My U.S. airline issued me a exception on the flight from Seattle WA to BKK because of the flooding but AirAsia might not have the same policy.

From what I read the only part of the airfare I can get a refund on is the airport tax. Maybe not worth the time on a $130 ticket??

Maybe this is why the ticket was so much less than other carriers. Cheers.

AirAsia don't do refunds (apart from the tax) but do offer a "credit shell" to the value of your original booking to use against another available flight within a certain period, 6 months I think.

Hi Just going thru the same issues with trying to cancel an Air Asia flight from BKK to Krabi but cannot get ahold of them..is there a 1-800 number to access them?

when I emailed them the response I received was that to watch for my flight as all were scheduled to go..guess it was just a generated response though I did tell them I needed to cancell..

hi guys!

we went trough the same dilemma as you do..i needed to reroute my flight BKK to Phuket to Kuala Lumpur to Phuket. Airasia doesn't give any refunds back (except the tax) ,they offer you a credit shell, which you can use in 6months. They are not answering to the emails, so if in a hurry it is best to called them. I for example called them in Paris to get the credit shell. Hope this tel.numbers help:

Thanks so much for the reply. I will figure out which phone number I can call from the U.S. given my options from home here. Cheers and thanks again for all the help.

Hi inaspin..

did that and the only response you get is to send them an email..when i did that, their response to me today was just to follow my flight information as all flights were a go, they did not even acknowlege it was a cancellation...

Hey and G-Day 1windy1

Looking at this, I don't think you can get a refund.

You can apply for a refund on the tax paid ...after the departure date...

Can I cancel my booking and get a refund?

Once your booking is confirmed, it cannot be cancelled and the payment you made is not refundable.

However, you can get a refund on airport taxes.

The airport tax refund may only be made after the date of Departure. For assistance, click on the email tab below. This request will then be forwarded to the relevant department for processing. Please note that this process may take up to 30 working days and will be credited to the original mode of payment for the booking. In the event there is more than 1 guest in the confirmed booking, the refund will be made to the person who made the purchase. No refunds will be made to third parties.

To ensure a smooth refund process, please provide the following details:

(a) If payment is made by credit card:

1. The Reservation/ Booking Reference Number

(b) If payment is made by Direct Debit or Cash or Travel Agent:

1. The Reservation/ Booking Reference Number

2. Bank Account Number

3. Bank Name

4. Name of Account Holder

Please be informed that guests will be charged a processing fee for refund of airport tax, as displayed in the Fee Schedule.

Back Attachments.

Hope this helps.

Good luck

10. Re: AirAsia- can I get a refund on a flight I won't be taking?

Update: I did call the U.K. office and they did walk me through the screens for a "credit shell" like mentioned above. It's good for 89 days. Due to the floods they will re-book until Dec 13th for free I believe if you want to go that route vs. credit shell.
