December is one of the best months of the Dry Season in Southern Thailand for a beach vacation. So Phuket, Khao Lak, Krabi and Koh Lanta are most popular with Trang having fewer visitor numbers. It depends what your preferences are in terms of lively or more quiet, in the middle of it or more secluded. If you follow up on any of the individual forums an idea of your budget for accommodation and type - hotel or bungalow - facilities - pool etc - will help with giving you advice.

Koh Chang is also perfect in December. Have a read up on that forum as well if you like. CJ

Phuket will be extremely busy in December, as will many beach resorts. Apart from those mentioned there are places like Rayong, Koh Samed, Hua Hin, Pranburi, all of which have good weather then too. If you want to escape the crowds, consider the coast of Trang province and the nearby islands.
