I would like to go Taroko National Park and qing shui Cliff from Taipei. what is the best mode of transport going there? Can i book private tour at hualien city? How much?
Thanks for the replies. I am a solo traveler. I'm sure it will be expensive by taking cab and i would like to opt for cheap and reasonable priced private tour. So there is no Private Tour Company available if i book it upon arrival at hualien?
When you say private tour, do you mean group tour? Otherwise having a private guide to take you around Taroko won't be cheap. If that's what you're looking for, then I agree with others that getting a taxi from Hualien station and having them take you would actually be cheaper. There is a park shuttle bus that you can get on and off at your own pace stopping at popular spots, which is the cheapest option. We (4 people) booked Taiwan Vista Day Tour and it was awesome. We found it here due to well-deserved high rating. But it is definitely the more expensive option.
There is a shuttle bus that you can take (North Bound Route) but it doesn't cover all the attractions eg Qing Shui Cliff. The cab is definitely more expensive but you can move faster as you are not limited by the shuttle bus frequency.
From Taipei to Hualien, you can take train there. You can find the time and price by searching in Taiwan Railways Timetable Information System online. From my experience, the tickets for express train (Taroko Train and Puyuma Train) are usually sold out very soon (especially during weekend or national holidays). So if you want to take express train, you can consider to book the ticket earlier.
