Asturra Shutte Service

We bought tickets with this company on arrival at the airport for $10 each for transport to Antigua on the basis that it would leave in15 minutes. After waiting a while the man told us he was waiting for one more person and that he had been given "mala informacion" and that the person would not be arriving for another 45 minutes and we could wait or pay an extra $15 and leave straight away. We were not happy and were arguing with him when he came back and said that there was mala informacion and the other passenger would not be arriving for another 90 minutes. We kept saying it was not our problem and that he was probably lying, and we had an agreement and he needs to honour it, and he kept saying it was because of the mala informacion. Luckily two further passengers arrived and we could leave. Maybe this is just part of ravelling here but others might want to take note when choosing a shuttle from the airport to Antigua.

Generally they need three passengers minimum to make it worthwhile for them. So it should've been an extra five dollars. Mala informacion may just refer to flight delays and changes in ETAs.

Welcome to Guatemala. "15 minutes" usually means 45 minutes to an hour. It's a cultural thing. Time is not as valuable in Guatemala and the locals don't understand why we foreigners get so upset about wasted time.

And yes, $10, is a standard price to pay for a shuttle, but usually they wait until they have enough people to make it worth it. If you wanted to leave right away you could have paid $25-$30 for a taxi.
