Final Itinerary... thoughts? Thank you!

Hello travelers!

My final itinerary draft is complete, and I would greatly appreciate any tips/advice on it.

Day 1: Fly to SJO, go through customs, get a taxi to San Jose and stay overnight (we want to hit a casino and have some drinks that night since we arrive at night) Hotel is booked.

Day 2: Fly from SJO to Fortuna Airport, arrive at 1:10 P.M. We don't know what to do the rest of the day here since we get in later in the afternoon... taxi and check into hotel, eat, and hit the hot springs at night? Stay overnight in La Fortuna/Arenal area. I have not booked a hotel yet in this area if anyone has any suggestions.

Day 3: Zipline, Waterfall, etc. Stay overnight in La Fortuna/Arenal area.

Day 4: White water raft the pacuare to puerto viejo, arrive around 6:30 P.M, check into hotel, relax, dinner, and possibly go out that night. Also I have not booked any hotels around this area either.

Day 5: Relax at the beach, stay overnight

Day 6: Day tour to Cahuita, stay overnight (not in Cahuita.. where we will be staying the nights beforehand)

Day 7: Surfing lessons early that day then maybe the chocolate tour later in the afternoon, stay overnight.

Day 8: Shuttle to Bocas del Toro, Panama. Arrive around 11:00 A.M. (Panama time.) Spend the rest of the day relaxing by the beaches, dinner, go out that night, and stay overnight. Also have not booked hotel here yet either.

Day 9: Do some activities in Bocas del Toro... any suggestions? What is deep boarding? Stay overnight

Day 10: Shuttle from Bocas del Toro back to Puerto Viejo, arrive around 10:30 A.M. (Costa Rica time.) Check into hotel and spend the rest of the day relaxing in Puerto Viejo at the beaches.

Day 11: Taxi to Limon airport, fly to SJO and arrive at 8:10 A.M. Departure flight out of San Jose is at 1:17 P.M. Is this enough time to be at the airport before departure time?

Everyone on this site is very helpful in helping me plan my trip. Thank you so much.

I would stay the first night, if arriving late to SJO, closer to SJO, not in SJ city, and left early in the morning, after breakfast, toward Arenal. (Mind you, I do not need a casino you mentioned.)

The drive from SJO area to Arenal/La Fortuna area is not that bad and if is beautiful, especially in the mountains! There are shared shuttles you can take, for ex. E.g., Interbus vans.

You will be in Arenal before your 1:10 pm domestic flight takes off.

Puerto Viejo itself does not have great beaches. We visited it during our trips to S. Caribbean coast of CR, for eating out, shopping for groceries and a bit of souvenirs, but we would not have wanted to stay right there.

There are shared shuttles like Caribeshuttle that offer transfers (sgared shuttle vans) and pkgs from PV and area to Bocas and back. See https:/…schedules-daily-shuttles .

Lots of great info specifically for Bocas transfer is here: https://www.puertoviejosatellite.com/transpo… .

We enjoyed staying in Cahuita and in Manzanillo. In Cahuita - because we were within a walking distance from the national park, main st. with places to eat, bus terminal with the only ATM by the bank, a few small grocery stores. We found it easy to get in between near by towns by local bus.

Since you seem to want to relax on the beach, you may want to stay at a place with beach loungers, of which there are not many in S. Caribbean. This one has them - Banana Azul. It is near PV, not in PV. I believe Caribeshuttle to Bocas stop there for lunch (?). Not 100% sure. You can find plenty of reviews of Banana Azul on TA.

I would not be taking a domestic flight the same morning when I have an international flight. If your small flight is on time, you should have enough time, but what if there is a delay? We used PleasureRideCR, Interbus shared shuttles and private transportation between S. Caribbean and SJO area.

The nicest casino is the Fiesta casino which if five minutes from the airport and even this is no Vegas casino. The casinos in downtown San Jose are mostly dark and dirty and have no entertainment other than the ladies of the evening. Plus you will be backtracking in traffic to Arenal.

Do yourself a favour and stay near the airport day one.

@SubjectlyObjectiv Are the beaches a far drive from Puerto Viejo? We weren't necessarily planning on staying there just someone one the Caribbean coast.. It seems like Playa Uva is nice?

I've been to Tamariando, but wanted to see what the culture was like on the other side.

There is a beach right in PV, it is not the nicest though.

Punta Uva beach is nice.

In Cahuita, you can swim inside the national park.

In Manzanillo, the beach was pretty much deserted during the week, but the part right by the village was busy with local families on the wknds.

@SubjectivelyObjdctiv Thank you! Do you know which beach is best for beginners on surfing lessons or should we wait to do that on bocas del toro?

Playa Cocles is one of the well known surfing beaches on the Caribbean coast, but as we do not surf, I cannot tell you re levels (beginners, etc) or lessons.

You can find more info about the beaches on that coast, as well as a lot of transportation, etc info here - https:/…areas.php .
