oops forgot to ask if June a good time to visit ...and?

I also meant to ask if June 18 thru the 24th is a good time to visit Angels camp and Yosemite? That is when our request from Interval booked us in the Worldmark Angel Camp Resort. It will be crowded? Any suggestions? What is there to do here besides the caves and the drive to Yosemite? We like hikes boats horses. My daughter is 14 and loves nature. .. Where to eat etc

June can already be warm at Angels Camp - but can be fun.

Close by is Columbia

http://www.columbiacalifornia.com/

If you like Indian gaming, Jackson Rancheria

http://www.jacksoncasino.com/

Yosemite is quite a distance from Angels Camp still - 2 to 3 hours so will make for a long day. Closer by are places like

Calaveras Big Trees

http://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=551

or drive up to Pinecrest Lake - its a doable day trip from Angels Camp

www.yelp.com/biz/pinecrest-lake-pinecrest

Drive highway 49 and explore the area - drive and see Marshall Gold Rush area; then possibly do shopping at Folsom Premium Outlets and return back to Angels Camp

www.parks.ca.gov/default.asp?page_id=484

There is a fair number of wineries in this area - so if you like wine tasting good area to do so. Ironstone Winery sometimes has events in the summer

http://www.calaveraswines.org/

There is an interesting state park - Grinding Stone State park

http://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=553

and also Railtown

For more on highway 49 attractions also see

For horse back riding, Horse and Barrel

www.horseandbarrel.com/OurPartners.html

For boating, there is New Mellones Lake - at Angels Camp where you can rent boats

Have a good time - angels camp is more foothill country - but still can make for a fun vacation.

Angels Camp to Yosemite Valley is 50 some miles. While it seems like that should be an hour's drive it is a slower road than a freeway. I would allow nealry 2 hours to get to teh valley but there are other places to view than the valley like Hetch Hetchy and Tioga Road to Tuolumne Meadows.

Vacation travel builds as you get closer to the July 4th holdiay and then continues to build through August. I'd say during your dates it isn't peak travel time but it is starting to get there for sure.

We visited last week, warm weather and a little rain on one night. We stayed in a spa suite at The Best Western there. If you want to dine out, Camps is a very good restaurant in Angels Camp. We loved Murphy's also and enjoyed memorable meals @ V @ The Victoria Inn and the restaurant @ Murphy's Hotel. This is a very cool area of CA to spend time in. :).

Somehow this one slipped past TripAdvisor's automatic closures.
