Where to Park? Scams to avoid, Safe areas

I need advice on NYC parking and the scams to avoid.

We will be driving in and would like to park the car during the day hours.

Is there anything in general our family should know about the parking garages? I've heard to avoid red flag attendants who try to lure you into the garages, because the rates are high.

Do you find any apps useful for parking? Would it be better to train in from NJ?

You posted in the general forum for the state of New York. The NYC subforum is here:

https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowForum-g60763…

When you repost there, include where you are coming from and going to afterwards. Where in NJ will you be coming from?

Also, nobody on this forum recommends unsafe places to park, eat, stay, visit, etc.

https://nyc.bestparking.com/ is good for researching parking options in NYC. If coming from NJ is convenient, you can park at the Port Imperial Ferry terminal in Weehawken and take the ferry to Manhattan. +1 that the New York City forum is the best place to post questions about the city.
