short romantic beach experience

I want to do something special for my boyfriend. He has never been to the beach and I really want to surprise him with like a short little vacation. Only problem is we live in Illinois. Where is the best place to get away for 3 or 4 days? Im not really interested in all the sight seeing or tourist attractions just a gorgeous beach to spend time at!

I would go to Gulf Shores, AL. The Mississippi Gulf Coast beaches are protected by barrier islands off shore built by mother nature but never the less they keep wave action to a minimum. The beach and water is nice but not like Gulf Shores. Stop in Memphis, TN on your way S and stay downtown. Visit historic Beale Street for good music and BBQ.

GS has pure white sand and clear blue water. You will find some great condo's and hotels on the beach there. Go to MS if you like casino's. If you like gorgeous beaches go to AL. Stop in Mobile and visit Battleship Alabama and the museum. Eat lunch at John Word's next door. When you make up your mind post back and we will help you with rooms.

I second the suggestion of the Gulf Shores/Orange Beach area in Alabama. You will find tons of condos listed on www.vrbo.com. There are hotels in the area, a few beachfront, but not all. You did not say when you were visiting, but if during the Summer a condo can be just as cheap as a hotel.
