Dewey is all bars, so a 16 year old will either feel shut out from the fun, or will look for ways to find parties. Rehoboth is more fun for younger kids. OCMD has lots for teenagers to do, including the large boardwalk and beach. Depends on your kid, and whether they still like spending time with you, or with other teens.
Hi Anthony – Rehoboth Beach and Dewey Beach are both great options for a family with teenagers. Both beaches have plenty of sand for activities and both have the same surf since they are neighboring towns. Both also have plenty of family-friendly restaurants and Rehoboth has a boardwalk that is fun for the whole family day or night. If you’d like to experience both towns, they are only a short bike or car ride apart. You can learn more about which Delaware beach will fit your family best at https:/…
I would not count Dewey and Rehoboth as "the same" even though they are close to one another. Dewey has the reputation for being a party town for the college age crowd. Lots of bars, lots of drinking. No boardwalk.
Rehoboth on the other hand is a quaint beach town that is totally walkable. You can park your car and walk to eateries, the beach, shops, etc. There are tons of restaurants downtown. There are several arcades, a rooftop mini golf and a small amusement park (funland) all on the boardwalk. It has rides geared towards small kids and a few for the bigger kids too, but no roller coasters. Outside of downtown, there is the Tanger outlets for shopping, Jungle Jims for the waterpark and Midway Speedway for go-karts plus a few mini golf places.
Ocean City is more of a "city". The town is more spread out and more built up. There is a boardwalk at the far south end of town with rides, arcades and restaurants. They do have a roller coaster here. There are several mini golf places and a water park out on the highway. There is also an under 21 dance club in Ocean City that the teens might like.
Personally, I prefer the small town feel of Rehoboth. It is quaint and family friendly, yet has so much to offer in the downtown district alone. You can always venture out to Lewes and Dewey for the day....or even as far as Ocean City, MD for the day as it is not that far.
Hope this helps some.
