Roadtrip - Vegas , GC, Sedona, Antelope, Bryce, and Zion

Hi all, my husband just booked our flights out to Las Vegas for 9/1 (arriving around 5 pm) and leavng 9/11 (at almost midnight). Our plan is to arrive that Saturday, stay near the airport and wake up in the morning to rent a car and get on the road. We want to travel to the Grand Canyon, Sedona, Antelope/Horseshoe, Bryce and Zion. Our first and last night will be in Vegas, but other than that, we don't intend to spend any extra time there. We have booked nights in Zion for 9/8-9/10 but everything else is flexible. We're not sure if we should hit Sedona or the Grand Canyon first. We only need one night at the GC, figuring two in Sedona, 1 in Page, and 2 in Bryce. Any help/suggestions/thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Day 1 (9/1): Arrive in LV

Day 2: rent car and head towards???

Day 3:

Day 4:

Day 5:

Day 6:

Day 7:

Day 8: Zion

Day 9: Zion

Day 10: half day in Zion, drive back toawrds LV, overnight in LV

Day 11: spend the day on strip, flight is at 11:50 pm

Day 4: Sedona

Day 5: Sedona to Grand Canyon

Day 6: Grand Canyon to Page AZ (Antelope Canyon)

Day 7: Page to Bryce Canyon

Day 8: Bryce to Zion

Day 9: Zion

Day 10: Most of the day at Zion. Drive to Las Vegas

Day 11: Fly home

You should more time in Sedona than at Bryce. Bryce is a small park and can easily be absorbed with one overnight there.

You will need advance hotel reservations for this entire itinerary. You will also need to make advance reservations for a tour of Antelope Canyon.

Get to work NOW on book hotel rooms at all the other destinations. Don't be surprised if you find it a challenge at the Grand Canyon and Bryce.

Connie’s plan is ideal. Or, if possible, do it in reverse. The time allotment makes sense though.

Thanks! Being that it will be Labor Day weekend while in Sedona, does it make more sense economically to stay in Flagstaff and drive back and forth?

Absolutely not!

It will be crowded in Sedona, as it always is on holiday weekends. But commuting from Flag, or anywhere else, only makes it worse. Book your Sedona lodging ASAP. Just expect to have slower drives back to your hotel at the end of each day.

No. You'll spend two hours or more on the road and then there's the gas expense. With the way gas prices are going right now, any savings you'd get between staying in Flagstaff over Sedona would probably probably make it wash.

What area of Sedona do you recommend staying? Looking at Airbnb there seems to be West Sedona, Uptown, area around chapel of the holy cross, and village of oak creek. We are looking to simply explore Sedona for a couple of days - hike, relax and have a decent dinner 1 or 2 nights. Notihing fancy really.

It doesn’t matter what part of Sedona you choose for your lodging. You’ll use your car everyday to tour all sides of Sedona anyway.

If you follow Connie’s wise advice, you’ll be here for 3 nights and most of 3 days. That is the minimum time you’ll need, especially since it will be the busy holiday weekend.

Book something ASAP.

So we have revised most of our itinerary and were wondering if you had more tips on things to see/do in the middle of the trip? Days 4 - 7 are flexible since we don't have anything really set in stone.I know there are a bunch of side trips, preferable routes to drive, etc, its just all a little overwhelming. :) I agree with the above that I don't need more than one day in Bryce but am ok with dragging out the middle of the trip. Here is our tentative schedule:

Day 2: Las Vegas to Sedona, arriving around 2 pm

Day 3: Sedona

Day 4: Sedona to Grand Canyon

Day 5: Grand Canyon to Page AZ (Antelope Canyon/Horseshoe)?

Day 6:

Day 7: Bryce Canyon

Day 8: early morning from Bryce to Zion

Day 9: Full day in Zion

Day 10: Most of the day at Zion. Drive to Las Vegas

Day 11: Full day in Vegas

Give Sedona at least 3 nights. You’ll still wish you had more time. You’ll be driving close to 1,000 Miles. By trying to see so many places, in reality you’ll see less of everything.

You need to look ASAP for accommodations at the South Rim and at Bryce--people make reservations a year in advance and the lodges/hotels nearby are often fully booked. Lodging availability may very well determine your itinerary. If the six GCNP lodges are all booked, check the hotels in Tusayan, the small gateway town about 5 miles from the southern entrance to the park. If the lodge at Bryce is full, look in the Ruby's complex just outside the park.
