Transportation to Cairns from Trinity Beach`

We will be travelling to Trinity Beach during Christmas 2012 (from Canada). We will not have a car.

Has anyone taken a taxi from the beach area to the Reef Fleet terminal in Cairns? Wondering how much it would cost (approx.).

We'll be taking our Reef tour at 9am in the morning and don't want to take the shuttle bus option if we can avoid it as it stops at many different hotels.

Thank you.

We stayed at Trinity a couple of years ago but only took a cab to the airport which from memory was around the $30 mark.

There is a pretty good bus service into town that runs pretty much to time - cant think of the name of the company but a google search will no doubt find it. The bus terminus in the cbd would be no more than 5 min walk to the tour boat wharves.

There is a local rental car company called Cruising Car Rentals that have an outlet at Trinity Beach that are as competitive as the majors - (Avis Hertz etc) which is another option. They allow you to drive as far as Cape Tribulation which is further than the majors do as they dont allow their cars on vehicular ferries if you bother reading the fine print.

If taking a Taxi is your preferred option I am amiss to understand the logic and have no idea on the taxi fare, other than to speculate… Perhaps this is an instance where you’d prefer to splurge on taxi fares instead of stopping at different hotels? However, I hasten to add, the Shuttle Bus is provided as a return fare (at extra charge) to facilitate reef passengers to the Reef Fleet Terminal to be on time for departure/check in. If you’re thinking of looking around Cairns after your day on the Reef then I would opt for a single fare and either catch, the City bus back or a Taxi ride home for more flexibility.

Whereas another option would be; (City bus) SUNBUS Route 111, approx. 50+ minutes from Trinity Beach to Cairns Mall Terminus in Lake Street or alight just prior to. Please note: walking distance of up to 6 minutes, plus your check in time if need be.

Hi, I would recommend the cruise boat shuttle bus into town as they are the easiest for your reef trip and they collect you from your hotel and deliver you right to the reef terminal in time to catch your boat.

Unfortunately taxis from the northern beaches into town are about $40+ each way so it will definitely be cheaper to hire a car for the day instead of taking a taxi.

The local buses (Sunbus) run into town regularly but they also stop at several places and although they are cheap they aren't a quick option especially when you have to be at the reef terminal in time to catch your boat.
