Trinity Beach over New Years

Hi all

We are spending 5 nights from 28 December at Trinity Beach then 5 Nights in Cairns.

Does anyone have any suggestions of what to do on New Years. We are four adults in our late 50s so not into nightclubs but would like to go out and celebrate the new year.

also what places do people recomend to see. we have already done the train ride as we did this when we stayed in Port Douglas two years ago. We are planning on renting a car for a few days.

Any suggestions would be great we love swimming, the reef, the rainforest and doing exciting things.

Hello,

For new years there are a couple options, you could head up to Palm Cove where there are 9pm fireworks. You would need to book dinner for this as it is VERY popular and has a great atmosphere. There are also 9pm fireworks on Cairns Esplanade and 12pm fireworks there. A rental car/ taxi ride would be needed for those two options. At Trinity Beach you could head to the restaurants (again booking would probably be needed) and celebrate there (not sure if they have fireworks too).

For places to see, the outer reef is nice or Green Island or Fitzroy Island. You could do a dinner harbor cruise in Cairns. If you haven't seen the Daintree rainforest check that out and try out the zipline too. The waterfall loop on the Atherton Tablelands also has nice swimming holes as a relief from our heat and a new aquarium has also opened in Cairns. Hope this gives you some ideas.

Be careful swimming from the beaches as it is stinger season (google it). Skip Green Island and do a full day trip to the outer reef eg Wavelength from PD but will need to book ahead.

Renting a car is best to get around/see things.
