Early morning departure from Christchurch Airport

We fly out of Christchurch airport at 6am back to Brisbane we presume we will need to be there between 3am and 4am. Questions are.

What will be available at that time for 2 adults and a 10 and 12 yr old?

And do we pay for accommodation for only a few hours are there any other options?

Do you mean what transport options? For 4 people a shuttle or taxi would be best. It takes about 20 min from the city to the airport. The bus system won't start till later.

Accommodation depends on what time you check in to the room, which you don't mention. Most hotels let you check in around 3pm and will not give a discount for a single day's rental.

If you are occupying a room in a hotel, then yes you will need to pay for it.

Taxis are available for transport to the airport.

If you are in a hotel near the aiirport, many of them offer a free airport shuttle to the airport.

If you get there at 4am you will be fine. Christchurch Airport will entertain your 10 and 12 year old for about 3 minutes. There is no easyway around this. Evem if you did decide to arrive the night before, the airport will probably be closed for part of that..

Thanks all, our concerns were warranted as we figured the airport would not be a happening place at that time. Hopefully we will find some type of eatery :-) hopefully .... We will stay as close as possible to the airport any suggestions??

The airport really shuts up shop around 8.30pm in terms of cafes etc. They open again at 3.30am I think. I'm not sure if the airport is actually open all night if that's what you were thinking.

Although they say check in 2 hours before your flight, if you are just flying to Australia then 90 mins is usually fine. So you're best off just going to bed early and waking at 4am and staying close by to the airport presuming your flight is at 6am.

Just be prepared for the looooooooooooooong queues. I know it sounds bizzare for that time of the morning, but there's usually around 6 international flights that depart between 6.00 & 7.00am. You can get breakfast there but by the time you clear the check in counter & lined up to pay your departure tax, you won't have that much time left before you have to board your flight. And surprise! There's a Time Zone on the 1st floor after you go through security. That should keep the Little Charmkins amused for a wee while.

Enjoy your trip!
