Best Winery For Lunch in the Yarra Valley

We are cruising New Zealand and Australia. When we go to Melbourne, we are going to visit the Healesville Sanctuary and the Yarra Valley on our own (rather than on a tour or ship's excursion) with a rental car. I am looking for a great winery to visit in the Yarra Valley, where we can have a nice lunch in a lovely setting. We are interested in a winery that has good wines, too (particularly Cabernet or other red, if possible), although we will not be doing very much tasting since we are doing the driving. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

As you probably know, the Yarra Valley is a cool climate wine growing region and as such is known mainly for its Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs. However, you'll find some good Cab Savs and Shiraz wines too.

Yering Estate http://www.yering.com/index.php

and Domaine Chandon http://www.domainechandon.com.au/ are two that spring to mind as having wonderful settings for lunch. Wine is nothing to sneeze at either.

If 'taste'n'spit' isn't as appealing as taste'n'swallow, then there are plenty of tours you can take. The better ones will tailor the wineries to your tastes, the cheaper ones have a set route that they travel.

Good idea not to mix drinking and driving - especially in a foreign country where they drive 'on the wrong side of the road' ;-)

You should also be aware that we have very strict drink driving laws here which are policed vigorously, especially in areas where violators may be lurking (like the wine country)

Enjoy our exceptional wine country!
