Southbank to South Yarra...public transportation?

We will be staying at a hotel in Southbank, and were looking at a Groupon special for a restaurant in South Yarra. Mapquest says it's only 2 miles away. Is there public transportation that goes from Southbank to South Yarra, or would we need to walk or take a taxi?

You can take a train from Flinders Street station (very close to Southbank on the other side of the river) to South Yarra station. There are also trams from the city -check the Metlink website for routes etc. It is a bit too far to walk so short taxi ride or public transport are you best options.

Yes, South Yarra is well served with transport options. Bus, train and tram, all go from Southbank/city to South Yarra. Where in South Yarra are you going?

You could travel one way on a Sandringham line train from Flinders Stret station: paltforms 13 or less often 12 on weekdays, 8 or 9 on weekends, then return to Southbank after your feed on the scenic Number 8 tram along Toorak Road, South Yarra, passing the Royal Botanical Gardens along the way.

If before 6pm, purchase a Daily Zone 1 Metcard; if after 6pm, a two hour Zone 1 Metcard. These apply for Monday tpo Saturday inclusive. On Sundays, a cheaper Sunday Saver Metcard is the go, but you can only purchase the Sunday Savers from staffed railway station booking offices (such as Flinders Street) and some agents although note that Metcards are slowly being phased out.

Do not buy a myki smartcard as the A$6 cost is nonrefundable, and nor is any remaining travel value refundable.
