Melbourne with kids (3 days)

Hi, intending to bring kids to Puffy Billy Railway and of course Phillip Island. I suppose we need 1 day for each event. Any idea where else / what to do along the way to Puffy billy or Phillip island? Eg any strawberry or fruit picking farm? Animal farm etc? Thanks

Sorry, but we need more information. When are you coming? Will you be flying into Melbourne from Singapore? Are you planning to hire a car?

Puffing Billy can be done by public transport. Phillip Island can be done by a full day tour (or half day). However, I'd recommend hiring a car and staying overnight, either in the Dandenongs or on Phillip Island or both.

How old are your children? I love Trees Adventure (which is near Puffing Billy) but it's better for kids 8 years and older. Healesville Sanctuary is another option.

thanks for reminding me about the details. We will be flying in on 03 Nov and out on 8th. But only has 6th & 7th to travel out of cbd. Accomodation alr booked thus not possible to stay overnight. Yes we will be renting a car for both day. Kiddos are 7 & 3 respectively.

Phillip Island will be a late night for you, then, if you go to the Penguin Parade. It'll be 9.30 to 10.00pm before you leave, and around a 2 hour drive back to Melbourne. Phillip Island itself is worth a whole day. Pelican feeding in San Remo at noon, Churchill Island Farm, Koala Conservation Centre, Amaze'n'Things, the Nobbies...... https://www.visitphillipisland.com/

Healesville Sanctuary is worth considering. You can easily spend a whole day there. The Flight Show is excellent. https://www.zoo.org.au/healesville

Puffing Billy can be combined with orchards. https:/…u-pick-trail-in-the-dandenong-ranges

Also have a look at Sovereign Hill in Ballarat, about 90 minutes from Melbourne. Also worth a whole day. http://www.sovereignhill.com.au/

THanks. I am thinking of doing a sunday market too. Which is good to venture with kids? docklands sunday market or st Kilda or anywhere that is not very far off from Melbourne cbd? We are into food and not so much into crafts.

There are plenty of other attractions very close to Puffing Billy, including Grant's Picnic Ground where you can feed the wild birds, William Ricketts Sanctuary which is full of sculptures set amongst the trees, and Skyhigh which has gardens, mazes and a viewing area with binoculars

I prefer the St Kilda market as it's along the beach and has a relaxing vibe. Not sure about the Docklands market but all items sold at the St Kilda market is meant to be 'handmade' and not mass produced. Whilst in St Kilda, you can take your kids for a ride at Luna Park (amusement park with rides - free entry) & then a short walk to Acland St to see the enormous cake slices in the cake shops. They don't taste that good but they're good to look at.

Thanks. Seems like St Kilda is the place to go. We may skip Penguin island then. From St Kilda then go to enchanted adventure garden and peninsula hot spring.. they are in the same direction right?

If you have unallocated time while in melbourne city don't miss the Zoo and nearby, close to the Children's hospital is a great nature play playground. Take a towel as your kids will probably get wet!

Mesh at Crown do a seafood buffet where children eat free. Not sure what days it is on, maybe Friday nights & Sunday lunch. Planning to do this with out son next trip to Melbourne. Reviews are good & adults get unlimited bubbly I believe!
