Family reunion 2011

I am in the preliminary stages of planning our reunion 2011 in Adelaide

We think there will be approx 500-800 on the Saturday from all over Australia and will need a venue where there is a dry assembly area and possibly an adjoining picnic or oval so people can bring their own food.

People will be travelling with caravans and also needing motel/hotel accomodation

What are your first thought

Night time we shall be having a select dinner and of course the numbers will decrease re children, elderly and finances.

The following day Sunday we shall hire some coaches and do the tourist trail and see where our ancestors arrived at Mission Bay Port Adelaide 1839.

Any suggestions Christina

Hi Christina,

That is one family reunion. I'd suggest you contact Adelaide Convention and Tourism Association for something this big (acta@acta.com.au). We held a conference in Adelaide a couple of years ago and there isn't a lot of really large venues available.

However, you may also want to contact Adelaide Shores Caravan Resort which is owned by the Adelaide Shores Authority from memory. The Caravan Resort is enormous and is a very high standard with probably 100 or so cabins and camping/caravaning for 500 or so and it's on the beach so its a great location with pools, playgrounds, bbq areas - it would be ideal for most people and certainly caters for all budgets.

Other facilities owned by the authority and on neighboring land is a golf course, apartment accommodation and a function facility that may be suitable for some of your larger gatherings.

Christina, What comes to my mind for the number of people in your reunion, and the requirements is The Crows Shed AAMI stadium.

The Crows have now vacated the shed, and another team or organisation may take it over, though the venue is perfect for the number of people, with adequate parking and on the Max Basheer reserve also close to Port Adelaide.

The time of year will also dictate the availability of the venue, and if it is for hire. Contact the Crows office on:

www.crows@afc.com.au

Telephone: (08) 8444 06666

Fax: (08) 8347 3237

Good Luck

I agree.. Adelaide Shores is the perfect place (depending on the time of year.. in Summer many of our regional folk pre-book the place and come down over christmas etc) You need to work out whether the Venue is the important thing or the camping availability. There are many venues which will house 500-800 people but not all are close to camping grounds. Do you want to be in Adelaide or are you happy to be a little further out?

ACTA and Adelaide Shores are your best starting point though.
