Cheap clean accomodation with ocean views and central

Hi There, I will be travelling with two girlfriends to celebrate a "special' birthday in April ( a touch on the older side), and we are trying to find a nice motel with ocean views and central to cavill if possible. We are looking for a one or two bedroom apartment with kitchen. I have previously stayed at the Iluka, but have discovered that this is no longer an option. I was then looking at the Surfers International next door to this, but the reviews on this website aren't great, and I am wondering if there is any development currently occuring at the old Iluka site that migt make this a bad option anyway? Also looked at the Penisnsula, but again, is there building work at the Iluka? The other place have looked at is the Chateue Beachside, but again, not great reviews. Everything is a bit pricier as I think that it is school holidays in qld at this time - unfortunately can't change the birthday! If somebody is able to suggest something nnice at a resonable price I would really apprecaite it, as I think that I've exhausted every website! Not really that familiar with the different motels except the Iluka and the Equinox (which was too far from the central area). Thanks!

Welcome to Trip Advisor and the Gold Coast forums!

What is your actual budget range per night, as we may be aware of more options to recommend, if we know what the maximum you're willing to pay is.

Good luck with your planning and have a GREAT time celebrating on the Gold Coast! :)

Wow, thanks for responding so quickly! I think we would be looking at paying up to around $160 per night twin share, a bit less if possibe and then extra per night for the third person. The main criteria is to have an ocean view and be close to cavill, as that is what the birthday girl has requested! Some of the reviews about cleanliness at some of the places are quite scary!

It's always disappointing when you think you've snagged a good deal ... and then start reading reviews reporting about how terrible the places are!

If you don't mind me asking, when will you be there in April (i.e. do you already have set dates worked out?), and how long for? Also, do you require separate beds, or are you willing to share a bed? Does anyone in your group mind sleeping on a sofa bed? How much extra would you be willing to pay for the third person per night?

Unfortunately, some of the ones that come to mind may be at the top end of your budget range (or a lot over, depending on your exact dates).

As an aside, have you already tried www.stayz.com.au ? There might possibly be some options there to check out.

Good luck with your planning and have an AMAZING trip! :)

Hi there are plenty of options in that price range. Especially if you use wotif or similar. Hotel grand chancellor right in the middle of surfers has a deal on for ocean view rooms for $99 with a kitchen.. Circle on cavill also has good deals for 2 bedroom apts often with kitchen..holiday inn might be in that price range it's great can't remember if it has a kitchen tho..even Q1 is in that price range often and it's great! :)

Thanks for all of your suggestions Wyfee, but as we will be travelling from 31st March until 6th April, I think that this is Qld school holidays, and most of these options are around $200 per night, as I have exhausted Wot If. I will take another look at your suggestions, thanks so much for the suggestions.

In answer to your questions Random-Sunshi it doesn't really matter too much about how much the additional person will cost, they will only be joining us for three of the six nights, so a sofa bed is fine, We would prefer twin beds, but if this is not possible, we can probably share.

Ia anybody able to tell me what is happening with the Iluka?

That's what I was thinking as well - that most hotels are charging higher prices than usual. All of the hotels I know of don't seem to quite match your requirements, unfortunately.

- Mantra Circle on Cavill has one-bedroom apartments for $167 per night (so a tad over your maximum price - don't book via Wotif, as your first night is $10 more than if you book via their website - you also get a 1x $40 Calmer Therapies voucher too, apparently), but, unfortuately, you only get city/river views, but you'll, of course, be right where Cavill Mall is.

- Moorings on Cavill is offering one-bedroom apartments for $155 per night during your stay, and does get quite positive reviews around here. Unfortunately, the views seem to be river/hinterland views, as opposed to ocean views, but, it is only about 2 minutes walk away from Cavill Mall.

- Breakfree Longbeach Resort is offering one-bedroom apartments for $144 per night, (prices are more expensive if you book via their website, but, perhaps, they might be able to price-match) and do offer ocean views, but, they're a tad over ten minutes walking distance away from Cavill Mall

- Ipanema is offering one-bedroom apartments for $105 per night except the latter end of your stay which is $180 per night for a one-bedroom apartment, or $125 per night except towards the end of your stay which is $220 per night for a two-bedroom apartment at the moment for your dates, but, unfortunately, it's more like a 20 minute walk to Cavill Mall (sort of mid-way between SP and Broadbeach instead).

I should mention that I haven't stayed in any of the options above, so, I can't confirm about quality, services, etc., so, reading the reviews will be your best bet.

Unfortunately, the last I heard about the Iluka development was this article from March last year (not sure about anything more recent): goldcoast.com.au/article/2011/03/19/300465_g…

Good luck with your search! I hope you find something great, and have a good celebration! :)

The Iluka Building is simply vacant at the moment. No noisy developments going on there but things could change between now and March.

Jim Raptis was going to knock it down and build a massive high-rise there but looks like it is going to be renovated and re-opened due to the down turn.

Have you looked at 1 the esplanade?

Random Sunshine has given you some options above and done a lot of work.

Moorings and Ipanema dont really offer ocean views.

And Circle on Cavill offers ocean views from higher floors - beachside.

Thanks for that massive amount of information Random Sunshine, I really appreciate it, I will certainly look at all options you have said.

Thanks also Beach8um for the info re the Iluka, wasn;t sure if there was building work happening if we decided to stay next door at the Surf International.

Do you really want to be in Surfers?

I would also suggest looking at Broadbeach. It is only 5 mins south and there are lots of apartment style hotels to choose from.

You'd be close to the casino and lots of restaurants and bars to visit.

Pacific Fair shopping Centre is close by and generally it is much nicer area that SP (IMO).

HI there I wouold look at the Peninsula. Its around $200 per night for a 2 bedroom apartment. The facilities are great there, plenty of pools to pick from & a great BBQ area. My tip would be to ask for an updated apartment as some of them need a refurbishment 8-)

Cheers,
