Day trip to Brisbane

Is it possible to do a day trip to Brisbane using public transport/or some other cheap way?

The train is the easiest way ... direct trip from the coast to central station which is right in the CBD.

Yeah, train it to Brissy, but more cost worthy if you purchase GO CARD.

To make the most out of your day, check out the online time table & then plan your day.

Can incorporate a relaxing cruise on Brisbane River if the weather is OK.

By "relaxing cruise" I recommend using the public transport called CityCats - which can be paid for by cash tickets or on GoCard (cheaper). Citycat is a great way to see the city - much cheaper and faster than the expensive cruise boats.

cheers.
