Overnight stay in Darwin, stay in town or at the airport?

We are coming from Manila in November for one night - should we stay in town or at the airport? How far is the city from the airport, and how much is a transfer? We need a hotel with a pool.

Around $25 for a taxi to town. I would definitely stay in town so that you can have a look around if you stay at the airport it's just an airport surrounded by suburbia. How long do you have in D town? Lou

I agree with Lou, stay in town. We have stayed at one of the airport hotels, but we had to catch the next flight at 10am and had arrived at 330am, and so it made sense to go and catch some hours of sleep at a hotel close to the airport.

Definately stay in town, Darwin is a unique city with history and you will probably regret not seeing it if you are passing through. The airport is only around 15-20 minutes away. Taxi is the easiest at around $25. There is a good selection of hotels of all ranges in the city, most of the higher end ones have pools. There is also the newly opened swimming area and wave pool on the waterfront with several hotels and restaurants. If you decide to stay near the airport there are not many facilities and the Rydges is more resort style suiting your needs.

All three hotels next to the airport all have pools.

I don't think I know of any hotel in Darwin that doesn't have a pool. The only difference us the size and quality of establishment and their pools.

Thanks so much for all your help.

We only have an overnight in Darwin, with a 1.30pm flight the next day - so only about 12 hours.

There is also the Cullen Bay Area...... Not far from the city centre, pleasant walk to restaurants, marina for sunset cruise, or Mindil markets ( if you are there a Sunday or a Thursday) and nearby casino.
