Have a look at the FAQ's on the right hand side of this page- click on "top questions about Sydney" Plenty of info. there including "must sees" & "visiting with children".

The official Sydney tourism site also has lots of ideas sydney.com/things-to-do/family-holidays/top-…

I would take the children to Wildlife Sydney and The Aquarium- you can buy a pass that covers both and also I think Sydney Tower which is another good place to go. The powerhouse museum is good for kids and Maritime Museum - both are in easy distance of where you are staying.

Take everyone on a ferry trip to Manly from Circular Quay and have lunch there. If it's a nice day the trip is awesome and the views from the water are worth it.

Or, go to Taronga Zoo. It's a short ferry ride from Circular Quay. The animals are living on expensive real estate and there are great views of the city from there.

Taronga Zoo.

Ferry to Manly.

Bus/taxi to Bronte and do the walk to Bondi if you all can handle an hour's walks and some stairs.

Walk around The Rocks and the Botanic Garden. Lovely.

We do this every trip!!!!

All the above...ferry to Manly or Watsons Bay, Taronga, a walk around to Mrs Macquarie`s Chair from the Opera House through the Botanic Gardens are `musts`...but of course your interests should also guide you especially since you are a large group of varying ages. Plan carefully and you will all have a great stay.
