Sydney minimum International to International connect time

I will be arriving on Virgin Blue from Auckland at 0740 at T1, must go through customs, collect checked bags and then re-check in with Thai Airways for a departure at 1000 in T1. Is 2h 20m enough time? (Booked on separate tickets)

Thanks!

I always allow at least 3 hours.

Agree that 3 hours minimum is the best idea for any international transit, but:

1. you won't have to pass through Australian Customs or Immigration if you are in international transit;

2. Virgin Australia and Thai are partner airlines and may have an 'interline' baggage agreement that will enable your bags to be tagged from Auckland through to your Thai Airways destination even if you are on separate tickets.

The big risk is that your Virgin flight is late into Sydney. As you're not on the one ticket, Thai would be very unlikely to hold the flight for you or your luggage... It may be worthwhile checking on that interline arrangement.
