Driving to Melbourne from Newcastle

Hi, Will be driving from Newcastle to Melbourne, have been considering going down the Hume Highway, as I think that would be the quickest way and as I will be doing all the driving myself was thinking of making to over night stop overs along the way, but have no idea where. Any help would be appreciated.

The first stage is easy, just follow the Pacific freeway to Sydney.

Follow these directions through Sydney:

http://maps.google.com.au/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=Sydney+Newcastle+Fwy&daddr=South+Western+Fwy&hl=en&geocode=FSyU_f0dcdMBCQ%3BFUHM-f0dWS_-CA&mra=ls&dirflg=ht&sll=-33.836772,151.047592&sspn=0.293729,0.617294&ie=UTF8&ll=-33.832779,150.992661&spn=0.293743,0.617294&z=11

You can then folow the Hume highway/freeway to Melbourne
