appropriate dress at airport and in plane

Hi there,

would appreciate advice re: topic, had planned to wear 3/4 length shorts and polo top going on flight to New York mid August, just wondering if same appropriate or would it be more advisable to wear chinos.

Thanks

Nobody cares. I have seen flip-flops and shorts worn on midwinter flights in Scandinavia.

There is no appropriate dress for flying.

I tend to wear as much as possible to save room in my luggage.

Hugh once declared he was going to fly in his chest waders (he decided against it in the end).

Daughter has flown out in full riding gear including hat, and I once came over in wellies.

once you're not wearing a gym vest and cut-offs, you'll be fine.

Back in the day, I knew a guy living illegally in New York. He used to travel back and forth to Ireland dressed as a Roman Catholic priest. Never once was he questioned by US Immigration. lol

I find long flights can get a bit chilly so I’d recommend long trousers for that reason alone. Otherwise I agree with the advice that there are no etiquette reasons for not wearing what you like.

You can wear whatever is most comfortable. It will be hotter than hell in NYC in mid-Aug. so keep that in mind. I'm usually cold on the plane so layering works well.
