Birthday meal for a family of 14

We are going to Disneyland for one day to celebrate my husbands 60th Birthday, we are staying in Villages Nature for 5 days and want to visit Disneyland for the day on his birthday, there are 14 of us including 3 children, 18 months, 5 and 7 we are looking for a restaurant for a birthday meal. Have seen Chez Remy but that is in the studios and we are only getting a one day pass for Disneyland, are you still able to eat there without a studios pass? or can anybody recommend anywhere else? I thought of the Rainforest Café but they don't take bookings and with it being a special birthday and a large group would prefer to book. Look forward to hearing some suggestions, with thanks :-)

Hi gilly, lovely to be celebrating your husband's 60th birthday as a family in Disneyland!

If you are just buying 1 day 1 park tickets and using them for the Disneyland Park, then you can't go into the Studios to eat in Chez Remy.

Have you considered Plaza Gardens buffet restaurant in the Disneyland Park? Children under 3 years eat free in the Disney buffets, and it can be easier than table service to please everyone. Another advantage of a buffet is that you can start eating as soon as you have been seated, and it is up to you how long you spend in the restaurant. When I have booked for a large group in the past, Dining Reservations would only book up to 10 people, so I made two bookings for the same date and time. When I arrived I went to the restaurant and explained we are one party, and they made a note so we had tables together.

One time I booked for a group of us to eat in Chez Remy, and although the food was good the service was dreadfully slow, with a lot of waiting between courses. If you only have one day there you could miss valuable park time if you want table service in the park. Are you thinking of lunch or dinner? When are you going?

If you fancy a buffet with Characters you could consider lunch or dinner in Inventions, in the Disneyland Hotel, if it is not too expensive for your plans. The Characters come to your table in turn so the children will have the opportunity to meet some of them without queueing in the parks. You can also order a birthday cake in the Disney table service and buffet restaurants, which is more like a dessert than a cake, so everyone can have a little bit and sing Happy Birthday. I have booked Inventions for a group of us in the past when we had a forum meet-up dinner there, and we had a long table together. If you are planning to go on a Sunday, Inventions is more expensive at lunchtime as they have a special weekly Brunch with different Themes.

It might be worth emailing or phoning Planet Hollywood in the Disney Village, as I believe they accept bookings for a large group. On one of my trips I chatted with some people in the park who had done that, so it's worth a try if you fancy that. I have some 15% discount vouchers I can send you which are valid until 21/12/18. They are for up to 8 people but they might allow you to use two with separate bills. Lunchtime is usually far less busy than dinner.

Another nice table service restaurant in the Disney Village open for lunch and dinner is The Steakhouse. Again, lunchtime is less busy than dinner.

Wow thank you so very much, I will certainly look at all of your suggestions, we will be in the park on the day of his birthday, the 8th August, it is a Wednesday and we are thinking of eating between the end of the parade and the fireworks to have a bit of a rest as it is going to be a very long day but we are definitely open to suggestions, maybe a late lunch might work better. Thank you for the offer of the vouchers I very much appreciate that :-)

Hi. When Stars on Parade ends around 6pm masses of people leave the parks for dinner in the Village or hotels, or head to restaurants in the park, so it is a busy time for dining. Many people have the same idea as you! If eating in the Disney Village you have to allow time to exit the park and get to the restaurant. They usually hold reservations for 15 mins but it is best to be on time.

Some like to have the evening free for rides as queue times can drop when the majority are having dinner, and when people start to get places to watch Illuminations from around 9pm onwards in the summer holidays.

If you prefer dinner and want to book Inventions for 6pm you should have time to watch the parade and get to the restaurant on the first floor of the Disneyland Hotel, or book for 6.30pm to feel less rushed. You could call at the restaurant front desk when they open for lunch to explain you are a party of 14 (including a high chair for toddler), so they can have this ready for you at 6pm or 6.30pm. The same for Plaza Gardens and The Steakhouse as they are also open from 12pm onwards.
