Debit cards are acceptable at most vendors. I would bring a credit card just in case of emergency. You will need a credit card to pay for hotels if not pre-booked and paid for. A loaded prepaid credit card is also acceptable. Carry some cash with you as well. I would say at least US$50 per day of travel, to be exchanged only in Israel for small purchases requiring local shekel currency like taxis, tips, souveniors, bus fare, etc.
