Day trip to Cassis from Aix

Any recommendations for day tour leaving from Aix? Due to being navigationally challenged we decided not to rent a car. A day trip would be ideal..

You can probably get a train to and from-not sure of any transfers or times, as we rent a car when traveling in Provence. It is definitely do-able as a day trip and cassis is a very nice place to visit. if you drive in/near Boston and can follow those roads, Provemce would be no more difficult in a car.

Actually public transport is not so easy. I wouldn't recommend the train for a day trip. You would have to charge trains in Marseille. Also note that Cassis station is quite a long way from the town centre.

There is a bus from Aix to La Ciotat via Carnoux, from where you could take another bus or even a taxi. More about how to get to Cassis by public transport (right at the bottom of the page): marseille-provence.info/places/towns/344-cas…

I have done Cassis to Aix and back in a day, but not the other way around. I'm not saying don't try it, but do plan carefully else you may end up sitting waiting a long time for a connection. Make sure also that there are no strikes or public holidays on the day you want to travel, and that you can get back as well as getting there. You could have a look at the TER train timetable from Aix centre (NOT TGV) to Marseille which is here …ter-sncf.com/Images/Paca/Tridion/fiche_12_2… and then you would change and get the local train to Cassis timetable here …ter-sncf.com/Images/Paca/Tridion/Fiche_01_F…

Once at Cassis station, you can try for a local bus see timetable here ot-cassis.com/fr/bus-intra-urbain-la-marcoul… into the town centre, the stop you want is 'Casino'. Or you can walk, it's two miles, downhill. Or you can phone for a taxi from the station there are usually numbers up.

Excursion are offered by the tourist office, here's the link to Monday excursion with a morning in Cassis

…aixenprovencetourism.com/aix-tours-monday-p…

Checked the Tuesday and it's on offer also but at a higher rate....

It is however a shame just to spend a 1/2 day in Cassis....

Good advice from ChicC. I have been scuppered so many times here by train strikes, cancelled trains, late-running trains, works on the line, etc. that I would be very reluctant to use it for this sort of tightly scheduled day trip. This said, I haven't tried the bus option personally, but it seems like an easier and possibly more reliable solution, especially if you are prepared to spring for a taxi from Carnoux to Cassis.

As I already wrote, in today's world, being navigationally challenged really doesn't matter: GPS, smart phone Google Maps, Map Quest or www.mappy.fr can all get you to Cassis quite easily. I agree that public transportation is challenging (and I am very grateful for that!) and driving not that complicated, but much less time consuming.
