We are stopping in Ross-on-Wye for a few nights and would like suggestions on "must sees / dos" in the area please.
Must sees are always difficult as we probably all have different ones but some things I have enjoyed in the area:
Symmonds Yat (famous beauty spot, bird watching, walks from Yat Rock)
Goodrich Castle (English Heritage so ticket needed to enter)
Skenfrith and Grosmont Castles ( over the Welsh boarder but free entry)
Hereford cathedral and Mappa Mundi/chained library
Walking on the Wye river path
Canoeing on the Wye
If you are book lovers Hay-on-Wye is worth a visit
Walking in the Forest of Dean
We stayed a few nights in Ross on Wye and I must say I was disappointed 😔 the shops were dated and I must of counted a dozen of people drinking high strength cans of lager in my short stay there !( I thought public drinking was illegal)..... the surrounding area is absolutely beautiful and I’ll definitely return again but would probably stay in Monmouth, they have a Waitrose there ,they wouldn’t put one in ROSS!!....
