Alesund in a month

My plans have solidified and I will be in Alesund in a month!!! I am very excited.

What is the MUST do list for the area. I am fit, and have a rental car.

I am NOT a big shopper, have been told to bring no gifts home, but love nature, and learning about the places I visit. I was thinking about the Aquarium...

Also, Food, lots and lots of good local food!

Thanks in advance.

Boof

There are plenty of useful ideas on the tourist office page and the immediate closeness to some great fjords and outstanding scenery, you are really spoilt for choice.

Asking for "must do" lists usually brings very generic or random answers since it may mean different things to different pepole. The visitålesund web site liked to by kilmaflyktning is a good starting point in any case. Ålesund is not a very big city so the attractions are limited, but if you include the surrounding districts you can spend weeks. Some of the most beautiful fjord areas, including the Geiranger fjord, but also others, are within easy day trip reach from Ålesund if you have a car.

Also check this link: https:/…

How much you can cover depends on how many days you plan to spend in the area. Also, will you be staying overnight in Ålesund town all nights ord o you plan to move around a bit?

Lonely Planet likes to list highlights - subjective of course. No need to be a slave to the guidebook though, but a good starting point together with the tourist office page to stear you in the right direction.

Likewise, the "things to do" tab above offer something similar

A car is good (or necessary) out of town, but inside Ålesund you dont a car as the New (Moa/Spjelkavik) and the old (the real Ålesund) centre both are compact and Connected by bus. The New centre is only for shopping, and not interesting at all.

The main attraction in the area is the outdoor and accessible by relatively short drives from Ålesund, within 1-2 hours you Reach many Places in the hinterland. But I would not stay in Ålesund if outdoor sightseeing, hiking etc is Your main aim. Consider Places like Øye, Valldal, Åndalsnes, Stryn, and perhaps Runde or around Fosnavåg if you like the coast.

I am sleeping Alesund each night, right now only 3 nights, I live in a desert so would like to see as much water and green horizons as possible.

Tusen takk for all the great sites, I will research at work today.

"like to see as much water and green horizons" :-)

I suggest a half day trip to island Godøya and visit Alnes Fyr and hike Storhornet (https://goo.gl/maps/eMaPCNheoLD2).

Or a day trip to bird island Runde - bird experts recommend late afternoon. https://goo.gl/maps/6d37DvgfLUx

Have a good journey.

In Norway there is water everywhere. Rivers, waterfalls, lakes, fjords, and rain of course.

If you sleep in Ålesund, there will be some commute to the wild interior, but all scenic so drives are nice.

The interior is very green, perhaps more than the coast. Climate is warm enough to grow Apples, strawberries, cherries, perhaps even apricots.
