planning

My husband and I are first time visitors to Norway and are planning approximately 10 days in June. I was thinking of starting in Oslo and finishing in Bergen or vise versa. We are happy to drive and prefer not to rush from place to place trying to see everything but see a few places well. We would love to see some fjords, beautiful scenery and avoid cruise ships crowds as much as possible.

I am finding there is so much information and would just like to select a few highlights.

Thank you for any itinerary assistance

Enter via the Hardangerfjord region and depart by the Sognefjord region and vice versa. Avoid Flåm, there are daily cruise visits.

Bergen also has a lot of tourists, mainly from cruise visits, so some crowd management necessary on certain days. Not too difficult with the long summer days.

In June you can see the sunset from Mt Fløien (funicular top station) at 23 (11 in the evening!), no cruise crowds at that time.

Allow 1-2 days in Bergen, drop off the car and walk, it is hilly but compact

i.e. fly in and out of Bergen and drive a round trip from there.

Thank you for your time. I think I do need to spend a few days in Oslo as well so would it be worth flying into Bergen and looking around the area there first and then drive or train to Oslo. It is better for me to fly out of Oslo at the end.Can anyone suggest a few nice locations ( small towns) to stay in the Bergen area rather than based in the city.

Once again thank you.

It is either Bergen or the countryside. Central Bergen has a small town feel.
