12 days trip in August - Western Norway/ Oslo

Hello!

We are planning our trip to Norway at the beginning of August and your comments and inputs would be great!

We plan to rent a car for 8 days to travel around and visit the country then stay few days in Oslo. Our goal is mainly to see the beauty of the fjords and National Parks. We are thinking of mainly camping in the wild as it seems to be accepted in Norway (following certain rules) .We also wanted to do a day of kayaking during our week there (any suggestions on a place?).

28th July – 7th August

Day 0: arriving in Oslo late evening

Day 1: Oslo – Eid Fjord. Kinsarvik and small hike around.

Day 2: Eid Fjord – Bergen, by road 7. Day in Bergen

Day 3: Bergen – Lom, by road 13 (Vinge-Vik) and road 66 (Sogndal).

Day 4 & 5: Hiking in Jotunheimen Nationalpark

Day 6: Lom – Geiranger Fjord by road 15. Hiking in Geiranger Fjord

Day 7: GeirangerAndalsnes. Visit of Andalsnes and surroundings

Day 8: Andalsnes – Oslo (long drive..)

Day 9 to 11: Visit of Oslo. Fly back

Thank you a lot for your help!!

Wild camping is permitted in the wilderness, this rule is intended for hikers in the wilderness according to the outdoor recreation act. You can not assume to find an acceptable place to camp for instance in a village such Kinsarvik or Geiranger. Such villages occupy a small space around shores and mountains steep (often really steep) from fjord or valley.

D1: Fine drive for 1 day, but dont underestimate distances and need to stop.

D8: Drive Åndalsnes-Oslo airport is some 6 hours + breaks so a fine transport leg.

Jotunheimen is Norway’s highest mountains and quite alpine, but there are no roads within the area. During a brief visit consider available day hikes like Besseggen or Galdhøpiggen (guided across the glacier), but you need proper hiking shoes/boots. If you dont want to bring hiking gear consider lighter hikes with sturdy jogging shoes along fine paths.
