March 2019

Hi thinking of booking a week at the start of March next year, never been to Cyprus before but after this year's long winter we are looking to break next year's one up with a visit to somewhere new, my question is what is Paphos like in March is the resort open? Thanks in advance

Paphos is a working town and not a resort so it doesn't close.

It really depends what you are going for. If it is a nice break somewhere a little warmer than Nantwich then it may suit, however, March is very unpredictable weather wise and after dark, which is around 6pm it can still be quite cold less than 12oC. It won't be much hotter than 18oC during the day, you may get cloudy days and it it may rain. If the sun is out then between 10.30am and 3pm it will be warm but not hot

Cyprus has a proper winter and is not necessarily a winter sun destination. The Canaries are warmer because they are further South.

Often in March the temperature is between 18C - 24C in the daytime. However, it can be 8C. This year March was good.

One good thing at the beginning of March is that it is the beginning of lent and you could experience the carnival in Limassol. Most tour operators arrange transport on the Sunday for this event as it is a very big event in the calendar. I lived and worked 15 years in Cyprus and only a couple of times was the weather really bad for carnival.

Being it is not too hot it is an excellent time if you wish to do sight seeing. The spring flowers start coming in February and the wild flowers near Paphos harbour in the Archeological site and at Tombs of the Kings are usually really good.

Hi, yes Paphos is a year round resort.

December is quiet but tourist numbers pick up from February. Late March is a good time to go, plenty of warm sunny days and all the wild flowers are in bloom. Almost all restaurants and tavernas are open too. Bus services are frequent and cheap and the Cypriot people are warm and friendly and most speak good English.

We have had a week or, more recently, 10 days in Paphos in late February for many years now and have had only two days when the day started with rain. Both days cleared with sunshine in the afternoon. On the odd night rain fell after we returned from dinner.

As Latimer says the evenings can be chilly. We take warm jackets and eat outdoors as do many other visitors. Day time we are happy in t shirts with a light wrap in case the wind blows. We have seen plenty of visitors sunbathing in the mid day hours or sitting reading or dreaming in sheltered spots.

For us the weather is ideal: we are past the age when high temperatures appealed. Paphos is great for walking (Tombs of the Kings and the Archaeological Park and along the sea front) and for day trips by car and the weather February time is ideal for walking. The spring flowers are lovely as Philip J indicates though you may be too late for the almond blossom.

Have a great time with a good dose of sunshine in the British winter.
