I had a good amount of success using Google Maps in Italy last year for walking directions around Florence, Venice, Rome, and Positano. The only issue I had was that Turn-By-Turn directions and business information would not appear until I turned on the data connect for a minute. Once I had turned it on and the data, the turn by turn directions and business info would all load up, and I could turn data off again and follow the directions with voice guidance. This struck me as odd because I had downloaded the maps of the areas I was in ahead of time, and they were displaying properly even without data on. Weird.
Anyway, I'm hoping to find a GPS app that is FULLY offline with business info, turn by turn directions, and so on. I will be buying a Greek sim card so that I do have data, but I'd prefer to have a GPS app that doesn't NEED data to provide real time turn-by-turn directions, just in case we wind up going somewhere without service.
I've looked it up, and the ones I see mentioned are as follows:
1) OsmAnd - https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...…
2) HERE WeGo - https:/…d....here.app.maps
4) TomTom - https:/…d...m.gplay.navapp
5) Navmii - https:/…d...ndroid.OSM.ALL
6) MAPS.ME - https:/…d...ithme.maps.pro
Does anyone have any experience with these for looking up businesses, and turn-by-turn directions in the Cyclades? I'd really appreciate some feedback on your experiences. While I'm sure I could get around using a paper map, and I will carry one as a backup, having a well functioning turn-by-turn GPS without having to carry a dedicated GPS unit just makes life easier for me. I am sure Google Maps would work about the same as in Italy, but I'd prefer something a bit better if possible.
