Advice on Crete resorts please

Hi, We're planning to spend 4 weeks on Crete in June. We've been to Sissi a few times and love it there - plenty of traditional tavernas and a clifftop walk to the beach. We like quiet places, 'nightlife' for us is a meal in a Taverna and a nice sunset if possible. We want to do a 4 week trip in June and stay at other parts of the island, probably a week at 4 different places. We like to walk too (2-3 hour walks max). Flights not yet booked and could possibly fly into Heraklion and out of Chania (or vice versa) Will hire a car. To give you an idea of what we like, we've recently holidayed on smaller islands (Symi, Tilos) and have been to Greece c30 times. Any suggestions most welcome as we have far too much choice 😀

We absolutely love Sissi as well and when looking for somewhere west of Rethymnon we decided to try Georgioupolis and loved it just as much. Georgioupolis which is about 15 minutes west of Rethymnon and for an idea have a look at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=78pFlkT7Npw and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WtCl_v1BmMk

It also makes a fantastic base to explore from.

If you like Sissi, you may like Paleochora on the South Coast for a week, or Sougia if you want really quiet. June is a lovely time to explore the South Coast by ferry. They are also lovely bases for walking.

Although quite different from Sissi we also love Paleochora down on the south west coast and definitely worth looking at for a few days down on the south coast https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=imUD3BpIRJo and https:/… and https:/…

It's a lovely town with a great end of the road feel to it and any questions at all about Georgioupolis or Paleochora just ask away and I am sure the friendly forum regulars and not so regulars will be on hand to help out :-)

p.s. you can easily visit Sougia for a day from Paleochora either by car or ferry ;-)

That sounds great, like the idea of exploring by ferry too. Just found a forum post with people's trip reports on it, so will do some reading up too. What did we do before the WWW!

Here's a link to a trip report that I wrote last year based in Paleochora https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowTopic-g644… and I'll try and find a couple of trip reports I rattled out based in Georgioupolis.
