Old town or New town for 18 year olds

I am booking a holiday for a group of 18 year olds to albufeira and I was wondering would it be better for us to stay in the old town or in the new town near the strip. Although we would like the nights out & an easy trip back to where we are staying, were not looking for a party hard holiday, more beaches, sun, nice places to eat & shop. Ive read the strip & old town are a 15min taxi journey apart. Anywhere in the middle that both places are accessible on foot?

Try the Paraiso de Albufeira, Brisa Sol or Cerro Alagoa. All these are along the main road between old town and strip and 10 - 15 minutes walk from each.

The walk back from the old town is partly up fairly steep hill but shouldn't be too taxing for young and fit persons. From the strip it is still up hill but not as arduous. Bear in kind that the 'Strip' ias half a mile long so if you end up down the bottom end it is rather a longer walk back. The bars etc in the old town are concentrated in a fairly small area.
