things to buy: clothes; food specialties; souvenirs?

What things would you recommend to buy in Portugal?

What products are unique to the region, or is better in Portugal than in most other places?

Any designer clothes / designer shoes?

Leatherware -- which brands to look for?

Food specialties? Which regular wines / portwines?

Cheese? Jamon?

Which of the local mineral waters is really great?

What souvenirs are really good beyond boring and the ubiquitous fridge magnets and tshirts?

Thanks a lot.

Buy an Ydreams YMagic book or an NDrive cell phone (google it). They are both better in Portugal than in most places.

Best electronics come from Portugal? That's interesting :-)

Thanks for advice! But maybe anything less techy?

Yep Ydreams and Ndrive are among the fine hightech companies in the world.

More conventional suggestions:

Port Wine and fine wines in general (not Mateus Rosê please);

Embroidery specially from Madeira Island (available in Lisbon);

Vista Alegre china (available at there store in Chiado among others) and Atlantis Crystal.

Best jamón is Spanish not Portuguese but we do have fabulous cheese among many others try: Serra da Estrela and Seia's cheese.

For genuine portuguese products not tacky souvenirs go to:

http://www.avidaportuguesa.com/

The store is aimed at locals nostalgic for vintage products and brands and it's in Chiado so you are bound to be very close to it.

The book:

Cozinha traditional Portuguesa= Traditional Portuguese Cuisine/ Maria de Lourdes Modesto

English edition makes a good and tasty ;) souvenir too.

Cheers
