Learning to scuba dive in Portugal

I am wondering about the best location for learning to scuba for myself, my husband and my 10 year old son.

Was thinking about the algarve, but can't figure out which would be the best town to be in to and the best operation.

We are also interested in food (octopus!), and strolling around small towns.

Any ideas of dive shops, towns and beds would be appreciated. Could also be outside of algarve.

ps. was looking at Salema but seems like the waves are big?

Google 'diving algarve' all the websites are in English.

Dishes of polvo (octopus) are available in many seafood restaurants in every town.

The "capital" of the octopus is Santa Luzia near Tavira in Algarve. (not in Viseu TripAdvisor!)

If you are flying to Lisbon, the place to go for both of your wishes is Sesimbra.
