Portugal trip planning

I will be taken my mother to Portugal in September. The plan is to spend 3 days in Lisbon, then head to Porto to stay about 2 days followed by 3 days in Lagos.

She has been to Portugal about 20+ years ago but I've never been to Portugal.

What's the best way to go travel from each one of these places to another? Any accomodation suggestion? Places to visit/not to miss?

Language is not an issue..

Thanks in advance,

If you don't drive it's the train, but the trip to Lagos it will take almost a full day...do you "have" to do that??

Thanks for your reply.

Yes, I do drive. Just not sure if it is worthy to drive, fly, get a bus or go by train.

Yes, my sister lives in Lagos with my niece so my mother wants to see then...

Pretty much the locations were based on:

Lisbon: my nephew and wife lives there and I have a good old friend from Cascais that I hope to visit.

Porto: a good friend lives there. We've worked together 10yrs ago and would love to catch up

Lagos: My sister and niece live there

I know we will be in a rush... actually my mother will stay longer in Lagos but I gotta come back...

Given your need to visit Porto and Lagos, your travels will be easier if you fly into Porto first, then train to Lisbon, and train to Lagos. You should be able to get an open jaw ticket, flying into Porto and out of either Lisbon or Lagos. Usually, an open jaw ticket is about the same price as a round trip to a single location.

Just to save any confusion you cannot fly out of Lagos, (#3) the airport is Faro, 92km away.
