Tips for attending the Bruges beer festival 2017

Hi all. Myself and 4 other lads are thinking of attending the beer festival in 2017. its our first time at the festival and any general advice and tips to enhance our experience would be great. The website for the festival appears to have little or no information (or I might be looking at the wrong site). Do you need to pre order tickets for the festival or do you pay at the door? Again any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Joe

This is the official website: www.brugsbierfestival.be/en/home-230.html - they also have FB page https:/… - but of course it is far too early to find any detailed information for February 2017.

There is some general information on belgium.beertourism.com/about-beer/festivals - although they don't mention (probably goes without saying) that you buy tokens to exchange for beer, I think there are different packages, e.g. €20 for 2 tasting glasses and 10 tokens.

Unless they change things this year (as noted on the official website, they are in any case changing the venue for 2017), there is no entrance fee. That seems to be precisely why people are complaining about overcrowding on e.g. www.belgianbeerboard.com/index.php…

Hi Joe, 6 of us attended last year for the first time and there are 8 of us attending this year from the North West Of England flying from Manchester.

My recommendation is book everything well in advance, if you are staying over and you haven't got hotels sorted get on with it, we booked our hotel in April, the same with eating if you want to eat out again you need to be booking, last year we were struggling with making bookings for food, we've also booked our meal for the Saturday night.

The location this year is right in the centre of Bruges, if you have seen the film "In Bruges" the Belfry and market place is featured quite a lot. everything is easy walking distance and all roads in Bruges lead to the town centre.

Last year tokens were 1euro50 each, for roughly 150ml with over 300 beers ranging from 4% to 15%, its cheap, there was food available on site. The popular beer locations are very busy, as you have roughly 20,000 visitors, Saturday last year had roughly 13,000 visitors a lot of overseas, I spoke to people from England, America, Australia, New Zealand, Holland and Germany, Sunday 7000 is more of a Belgium attendance less of the oversea's contingent.

Our tip for not losing each other is to wear the same hats, last year we wore La Chouffe hats, 6 English blokes wearing the same hat are easy to find, this year we will be wearing Zot Jester hats.

All the best

The Website is saying a new venue in downtown Bruges for 2017, if this is the Belfry I would be suprised as this is the site it originally started from and was moved because of overcrowding unless they are going to be allowed to use the square and close for traffic and tourists but this would be all out door and we know this year weather was mild but previous years and normally in February freezing remember one year at the belfry the water froze and toilets etc out of use so watching web site with intrest, as stated Saturday is the busiest day I prefer Sunday get there early if you require a seat as normally very few and as advised book flights, eurostar, hotel, restaurants etc early or be disapointed

The information is on the Belgium version of the website, best to use a PC or laptop and translate the page using chrome, it's also on some sites such as beerjunkets.

It's an amazing weekend, you won't regret it...........

We have been going for 4 years and going again this year....

It was in the bell tower the first year and wow!!!!, however it became too big to fit everybody in, so the past few years it's been in a massive warehouse just 5 minutes walk away.......

You pay on the day.......buy tokens and a glass, then top up the tokens as you need them.
