Money exchange

What is the best place to exchange foreign currency in Brussels? And yes I really do need to exchange some cash, it's got nothing to do with using or not using ATMs. Thanks!

Many banks/branches only buy a limited number of foreign currencies, I have had to go to the head office of ING before now to sell e.g. Singapore dollars.

Possibly bureaux de change accept a wider range but I have no idea whether any of them consistently offer more generous rates for a specific currency (if they were that consistent for all of them, they would go out of business!), and can only suggest you shop around in e.g. rue du Marché aux Herbes/rue des Fripiers where I think there are a couple of bureaux de change, and/or different banks.

DME Change at 23 rue du Marché aux Herbes claims the "best rates in Brussels" and "no commission" http://goo.gl/maps/8eKq http://www.dmechange.com/default.html

They advertise a very small buy / sell spread for common currencies, e.g. GBP 0.79 / 0.81 for the euro.

There must be a catch somewhere - but I haven't yet worked out what it might be.

If you have a few thousand spare euro, you can even buy gold ingots or krugerrands.

Thanks! At least there are exchange offices, in the Netherlands there is only one and they have horrible rates.
