A few hours in Brussels

Hi everyone. We have just booked our Amsterdam- London train tickets and thought we would take the opportunity to spend a couple of hours in Brussels. We arrive into Midi on a Sunday morning and have to be back there at 14:15 ... any suggestions as to what we could see for a few hours? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Go straight to Grand Place and Manneken Pis which is near to each other.

You don't say whether you are arriving in Brussels on Thalys (which terminates at Midi) or IC (on which you can get off at Gare centrale), which it would have been interesting to know.

If IC, get off at Gare centrale. You can store luggage there and then your Eurostar ticket includes free transport from there to Midi: it's only 1 stop on any train going South, there is one every 5 minutes or so including those to Ghent, Brugge, coast etc..

If Thalys, you have to get off at Midi so will be storing luggage there (I assume 14:15 means you have given yourselves an hour to cover getting it out again and checking in for Eurostar 30 mins before departure). However you can use your Thalys ticket for free transport to Gare centrale (all trains going North, the easiest to find on the departure board are probably the ones going to the airport) which is only 5 mins walk from the Grand' Place. Again, when you return you use your Eurostar ticket for transport to Midi (just show it on the train if an inspector asks for it).

Alternatively, you can take the metro (underground tram, line 3 or 4, €2 per person or if there are more than 4 of you, it would be worth buying a 10-trip card for €13) to Bourse for the Grand' Place.

I would suggest looking at "things to do" (list on the left of this page) or google Brussels sightseeing for anything else that might appeal to you. I would not, personally, bother with the Mannekin Pis but you don't give any indication of your interests or non-interests. If by any chance it is raining, near the Grand' Place, on rue Marché aux Herbes you have the Galeries St. Hubert which is covered and contains loads of chocolate and other shops, and some cafés.

For a couple of hours you should try belgian chocolate and beer, see the Grand Place (It’s been voted as the most beautiful square in Europe) and Mannaken Pis which is nearby.
