Amsterdam and Bruges Questions

Hello,

We are a family of 4 (kids ages 8 & 6) will be arriving from London - Amsterdam on August 8th afternoon around 1pm via Eurostar. We plan to do 1 day trip to Bruges. In Amsterdam, we'd like to do Canal Tours, Nine little Streets, A'dam Lookout. We are not very much into history. Anything else that we're missing for Amsterdam?

What's a good place to stay in Amsterdam? We will head from Amsterdam to Paris on 10th August later in afternoon.

So, London to Amsterdam, Amsterdam to Bruges and back to Amsterdam, then Amsterdam to Paris = East - West - East - West.

Can't you change your plans so you go to Bruges on your way from Amsterdam to Paris to avoid back tracking?

Our thought process was that with kids, travelling with luggage and changing of hotels would be more cumbersome than doing a day trip to bruges. Unless of course this doesnt make sense at all.

We will be travelling from US to London to begin with, so we will have ample luggage :) We will be travelling from Paris - US.

To say this as kindly as possible, that doesn't make any sense at all. You'll be FAR more kind to the kids covering Bruges on your way to Paris. It's really too far for a day trip with kids that age.

Ummm. Don't you mean north - south - north - south?

BTW, you only capitalize the cardinal directions when you say "The South"

Hello again, thank you again for your responses. Based on what you'll mentioned, revised the itinerary and have decided to cancel our plan for Bruges. We shall stay in Amsterdam those dates. What's a good place to stay? Is it more economical to stay in VBRO vs hotels? We do not plan to rent a car, If we live outside the inner canal belt, is the transportation easy?

Yes very easy. That is how Amsterdammers get around.

>>Is it more economical to stay in VBRO vs hotels?<<

Well that depends entirely on the hotels and apartments you look at. What is your budget per night? I think you might be shocked at prices of quad rooms in Amsterdam.

ericvokel.com have one serviced apartment left on your dates but €300 pn

https://www.yays.com/en/index.html have an apartment for €225 pn

Just skip Amsterdam and stay in Antwerp instead, do an easy daytrip to Bruges from there and then off to Paris.

I agree with ASW that London-Amsterdam on Aug 8 and Amsterdam-Paris on Aug 10 doesn’t make much sense, especially not with young children. Eurostar from London and Thalys to Paris both arrive and depart from Brussels. It will be far easier to stay in Brussels all those days. Do a day trip to Bruges or Ghent on Aug 9 and explore Brussels in the afternoon of Aug 8 and morning of Aug 10.
